INSTRUCTION

Taught by experienced Certified Level One instructors and a former collegiate sailing coach, EYC’s Women’s Sailing program incorporates both strong curriculum and hand’s-on sailing and racing practice using the Club’s fleet of Ideal 18 keel sailboats.

WOMEN’S SAILING

  • Sessions Offered
    Two 8-week sessions focused on learning how to sail.

    • Mondays, June 9 - July 28

    • 1 :00-3:00 pm OR 5:00-7:00 pm

    • Group dinner each Monday


    Two 4-week sessions for experienced sailors

    • Advanced Skills: Wednesdays, June 18-July 9  

    • Racing: Wednesdays July 16-August 6

  • The program will be taught by two experienced Certified Level One instructors, and we have eight ideal 18-foot keel sailboats available for use.

    Each of the 8-week classes will emphasize consistent practice, breaking down complex maneuvers into smaller, manageable steps. We’ll encourage feedback, prioritize tasks, minimize distractions, and set clear, achievable goals to track your progress.

JUNIOR’S SAILING

    Curriculum

    • Starting tactics and strategies

    • Current, tide, and water flow

    • Wind shifts and using them to your advantage

    • Upwind tactics and covering/protection

    • Up-course and ladder rungs

    • Spinnaker and downwind tactics

    • Match Racing

    • Manuals will be made and handed out; including Ideal 18 specific information and advanced info.

    Course Outline

    • Week 1, June 26: Ideal 18 Introduction

    • Week 2, July 3: Intro to Ideal 18 Spinnaker Flying

    • Week 3, July 10: Sail Trim: Sail shape, sail adjustments, fine tuning.

    • Week 4, July 17: Starting: Tactics, planning, analyzing the start line, the effects of current.

    • Week 5, July 24: Roll Tacking: Technique, purpose,

    • Week 6, July 31: Course Tactics and strategy: Strategy vs. tactics

    • Week 7, August 7: Current: Understanding how it changes everything on the water.

    Extras

    • Sailors will get qualified to take Ideal 18 out, prior to start date.

    • Three ‘Racing Rules of Sailing’ will be covered each week.

    • Video will be taken when possible and reviewed during the debrief.
